Tow & Haul Accessories – RV Trader Accessories Store

Every towing setup generates a running list of small hardware needs - a replacement dust cap, a grease fitting that stripped, a tongue weight scale before a long trip, a document holder that doesn't rattle loose. None of these are glamorous, but all of them matter, and hunting them down one at a time from a hardware store that may not stock trailer-specific components wastes more time than it should.

This collection covers 84 in-stock tow and haul accessories organized into three groups: trailer tools and maintenance hardware, towing accessories, and trailer tongue weight scales. Components come from Rigid Hitch and TRP International - the same suppliers behind the hub, bearing, and suspension hardware in the RV & Trailer Parts collection and Trailer Suspension collection.

Hub Maintenance Hardware

The largest subcategory on this page - grease caps, dust caps, and the fittings needed to service trailer wheel ends between full bearing repacks.

Dust Caps

Dust caps seal the hub's bearing cavity, keeping road debris and moisture out of the grease. They're a consumable - they get pried off during bearing inspections, can develop cracks with age and temperature cycling, and are cheap insurance compared to a contaminated bearing failure.

Available configurations cover the most common hub bolt patterns:

  • 4-bolt hubs - 1.943" O.D., zinc plated
  • 5, 6, or 8-bolt hubs - 2.446" O.D.
  • Standard trailer hub dust caps in two sizes (multiple listings)
  • E-Z Lube grease caps with rubber plugs - pairs and 10-packs in two sizes. E-Z Lube caps include a rubber plug in the center that accepts a grease gun tip, allowing bearing lubrication without removing the cap.

Grease Caps with Zerk Fittings

Grease caps with Zerk (grease) fittings allow you to pump fresh grease into the hub cavity directly through the cap, similar to E-Z Lube. Options include:

  • Grease cap with Zerk fitting (single)
  • Grease caps with Zerk fitting (pair)
  • Sure-Lube grease cap - 2.44" O.D., a spring-loaded cap that maintains positive grease pressure and includes a Zerk fitting for easy top-off
  • Reliable Sure-Lube grease cap - 2.44" O.D. version

Dexter Axle Oil Cap Kit

The Dexter Axle oil cap, O-ring, and plug kit is for trailers running oil-bath hubs rather than grease-packed hubs. Oil-bath systems use a sealed hub filled with oil rather than packed grease - the oil cap seals the hub and the O-ring prevents leaks. Sold as a pair (both hubs on one axle).

Hub Service Tools

Rigid Hitch Hub Removal Tool (RH-2610) - Made in the USA, this dedicated tool is designed to pull trailer hubs from spindles cleanly without damaging the spindle threads or bearing surfaces. A hub that's been on a spindle for years under load and road salt doesn't always pull by hand - this tool applies controlled force where it needs to go. Worth having before you need it rather than improvising with a puller that damages the spindle.

Lock-on Grease Coupler - A Performance Tool W-54228 coupler that locks onto Zerk fittings for one-handed grease gun operation. Standard push-on couplers can pop off under pressure; a lock-on coupler stays connected through the full grease stroke.

Grease fitting assortment - A mixed assortment of standard Zerk fittings in common thread sizes for replacing damaged or stripped fittings on trailer components.

Rubber grommet assortment - Grommets for wiring pass-throughs on trailer walls and frames, protecting wire insulation from abrasion at sharp panel edges.

Trailer Tools and Hardware

Beyond wheel-end maintenance, this collection covers the hand tools and hardware needed for general trailer work and roadside repairs.

Drill Bits and Cutting Tools

  • Left-handed drill bit set (13 piece) - Left-handed bits cut in reverse, making them effective for extracting broken fasteners. The bit bites into the broken stud as it spins and often backs the fastener out before drilling through it entirely - the right first step before committing to an easy-out or thread repair.
  • Black oxide high-speed steel jobber drill, 3/8" x 5" - A long-length straight drill for reaching into recessed locations on trailer frames and hitches.
  • 9/16" drill bit - A common size for hitch mounting bolt holes and trailer hardware.
  • 1/2" drill bit - Standard size for through-bolts in trailer hardware and bracket installations.

Hand Tools and Sockets

  • L-style wrench - A compact L-shaped hex wrench for tight-access fastener work on trailer components.
  • Power tool extension bars - For extending a drill or impact driver bit reach into recessed locations.
  • 1-1/8" impact socket - A common size for trailer lug nuts and spindle nut removal on larger axles.

Fasteners and Miscellaneous Hardware

  • Self-tapping screws, #8 - 25 pack - For trailer wall panels, light mounting, and general trailer sheet metal work.

Trailer Door Hardware

Enclosed trailer and cargo trailer doors need positive holders to keep them open during loading and unloading - a door that swings shut or catches the wind while you're working is a frustration and a hazard.

  • Zinc plated wire door holder, 4" arm - A simple spring-wire holdback that mounts to the trailer wall
  • Plastic door holder, 5-1/2" arm
  • Plastic door holder, 7-1/2" arm - For doors with wider swing clearance requirements
  • Trailer door holder - A standard steel door holdback
  • Trailer door hold back socket - The frame-side socket that a door holder pin engages

Document Holders

Trailers used commercially require vehicle registration, insurance, and inspection documents on board. Even for personal use, keeping documentation for the trailer accessible is useful.

  • Plastic document holder - Mounts inside an enclosed trailer or on a tongue
  • Trailer document holder - A more durable version for outdoor-mounted applications
  • Tectran trailer document holder - A commercial-duty document holder for trailers in regular service

Tongue Weight Scales

Knowing your tongue weight before departure is one of the most practical safety checks in towing - and one of the most commonly skipped. Tongue weight that's too high overloads the rear axle of the tow vehicle and degrades steering; too low causes trailer sway. Both conditions are dangerous at highway speed, and neither announces itself until something goes wrong.

Two Sherline tongue weight scales are in this collection:

Sherline 0-1,000 lb tongue weight scale - Appropriate for lighter trailers where tongue weight will fall in the sub-1,000 lb range. Designed for utility trailers, boat trailers, and smaller travel trailers.

Sherline 0-5,000 lb tongue weight scale - For heavier trailers including loaded fifth wheels, toy haulers, and tandem-axle travel trailers where tongue weight can push well past 1,000 lbs. The wider range makes it appropriate for any towing setup regardless of trailer size.

To use a tongue weight scale: with the trailer fully loaded as it will be for travel, unhitch it from the tow vehicle and support the tongue on the scale at the coupler height. The reading is your static tongue weight - it should be 10-15% of the trailer's total loaded weight for most setups.

Work Lighting

Opti-Brite LED flood beam work light - A portable LED work light for roadside repairs, campsite setup after dark, or any situation where you need directed task lighting. Flood beam pattern provides wide-area illumination rather than a narrow spotlight.
